Learning to fly is more affordable than you think.  Nothing compares to the exhilaration of flying!  Whether you are new to aviation or have flown an aircraft before, becoming a Sport Pilot is the new way to fly that is affordable and safe and you can learn how to fly for half the cost of previous alternatives.

To become a sport pilot, you must meet the following at minimum:

  • Be 17 years of age or older.
  • Be able to speak, read, and write English.
  • Requires either a 3rd class FAA medical certificate or a current and valid U.S. driver’s license as evidence of medical eligibility (provided the individual's most recent application for an FAA medical certificate was not denied, revoked, suspended or withdrawn).
  • Requires FAA knowledge (written) and practical (flight) test.
  • Allows daytime flight only.
  • A sports pilot certificate only requires 20 hours of flight time.  However, the hours of flight time is dependent on the student's ability. Many student pilots need more than the minimum hours of instruction before they're ready to fly solo and be certified.
  • Your instructor will give you an endorsement certificate when you're ready to fly on your own.
  • To get your license, an FAA examiner will administer a practical test where you demonstrate your proficiency in your plane and your knowledge during an oral exam.
